One of dance music’s most diligent history scholars takes us on a personal journey across myriad strands of hardcore and beyond.

East London producer Anthoney J Hart has releases on Arcola, Planet Mu and Sneaker Social Club under East Man and this current project Basic Rhythm. His latest LP for Planet Mu, On The Threshold, is a masterful interpretation of dub and hardcore that reshapes the genres into distinctly modern club bangers, while his latest as East Man (a collaboration with Walton) is out now on Hi Tek Sounds.

From house and techno to d’n’b and footwork, in his specialist mix he retraces his steps through dance music. In his own words: “The aim of this mix was to focus on the roots of the music I make, through a personal history of dance music, with a focus on the sort of sounds, producers and labels that have had a direct impact on the music I make – from Chicago and Detroit, to the UK rave scene and full circle back to Chicago again.”
